At Edutopia, I regularly generated story ideas and edited weekly pieces. Some of my favorites include:

A Teacher's Guide to Generation X Parents

Teachers Shake Up Shakespeare with Digital Media

Avatars Teach Teens About Self-Image

{personal essays}

I specialize in editing personal essays and nurturing unique voices.

One of my best journalism experiences was when I edited a piece by the infamous criminal defense attorney Tony Serra about his time in Lompoc Federal Prison. (It was a finalist for the Maggie-award.) I thought of the idea and developed the piece with him through letters while he was incarcerated. Next, I visited the prison to take his portrait, seen here: Letter from Lompoc (pdf)

I also recruited these writers and shaped their personal essays:

The Token, by Linda Mabry (pdf)

A World Away, by Allyson McKinney

My Fling with the King, by Pat Montandon (pdf)
